Documentation Overview
Learn how Veridis News Desk coordinates editorial planning and publication workflows inside WordPress.
Veridis News Desk is an editorial workspace integrated directly into WordPress administration. It coordinates newsroom planning, article assignments, review stages, and post-publication tasks without replacing the standard WordPress publishing model.
Standard WordPress posts remain the single source of truth for your content. News Desk introduces a dedicated operational layer around them, giving editors, writers, and publishers visibility into what is in progress, who is working on it, and what needs attention before publication.
Where News Desk fits in WordPress
Section titled “Where News Desk fits in WordPress”In a traditional WordPress installation, editorial coordination often happens outside WordPress—in spreadsheets, messaging channels, or separate project management tools. As drafts multiply, editors lose track of story ownership, review bottlenecks, missed deadlines, and unverified details.
News Desk brings that coordination into wp-admin under the Veridis News menu:
- Dashboard: High-level operational view of newsroom activity, daily publication counts, urgent deadlines, and items requiring attention.
- Newsroom: The primary working environment, providing flexible List and Board views to plan, filter, and track stories.
- Follow-ups: A dedicated workspace for tracking post-publication updates, callbacks, and research tasks tied to specific stories.
- Settings: Administrative controls for data retention and workspace defaults.
- Help: Reference guidelines, shortcuts, and documentation links.
WordPress posts, categories, tags, authors, and featured media remain completely standard. News Desk can be activated on an existing WordPress site without migrating your content, and existing posts are available in News Desk after activation.
Core concepts
Section titled “Core concepts”To use News Desk effectively, newsrooms rely on a few consistent operational concepts:
| Concept | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Story | A WordPress post managed within the News Desk editorial workflow. |
| Editorial Status | The workflow stage of a story: Idea, Writing, Review, or Ready to publish. |
| Assignee | The team member currently responsible for moving the story to its next stage. |
| Author | The public-facing WordPress byline author. Separate from the workflow assignee. |
| Deadline | An editorial target date and time, independent of WordPress scheduled publication. |
| Priority | Visual urgency indicator (Low, Normal, High, Urgent) to highlight important coverage. |
| Article Health | Completeness checks covering featured images, excerpts, sources, and photo credits. |
| Follow-up | A tracked post-publication task or callback linked to a parent story. |
| Editor Mode | A focused block editing view in WordPress that provides direct access to the editorial sidebar. |
The editorial workflow
Section titled “The editorial workflow”News Desk structures story progression through four distinct editorial stages:
Idea → Writing → Review → Ready to publish → Native WordPress Publishing
- Idea: A story lead, pitch, or topic placeholder. Ideas may remain unassigned while newsrooms evaluate them.
- Writing: An active assignment where a designated writer drafts content. Entering this stage requires an assigned team member.
- Review: The draft is undergoing editing, fact-checking, or copyediting. The assignee is typically the reviewing editor.
- Ready to publish: The story has reached the final editorial stage and is ready for release.
- Publishing: Carried out using native WordPress publishing controls or scheduled release dates.

Newsroom Dashboard
Section titled “Newsroom Dashboard”When editors open Veridis News in the WordPress administration menu, the Dashboard provides an overview of newsroom activity:
- Published today: Stories published during the current calendar day.
- Scheduled: Posts scheduled for release by WordPress.
- Needs attention: Identifies stories with missed editorial deadlines or failing Article Health checks before they go live.
- Deadline watch: A chronological alert list prioritizing overdue pieces and stories due within the day.
- In progress: Quick access to active drafts across Writing and Review columns.
- Follow-ups: Pending callbacks and research tasks due today or overdue.
From the Dashboard, clicking any statistic or highlighted story navigates directly to the corresponding filtered view in the Newsroom workspace.
