Newsroom: List & Board
Practical guide to managing articles, filtering coverage, and tracking workflow stages in List and Board views.
The Newsroom is the central operational hub of Veridis News Desk. It displays your publication’s stories, editorial statuses, assignees, deadlines, and completeness indicators in one unified interface.
Editors can toggle between two purpose-built perspectives:
- List view: High-density table designed for sorting, bulk scanning, advanced filtering, and inspecting metadata.
- Board view: Kanban-style visual board organized by workflow stage, designed for day-to-day newsroom coordination and status transitions.
List view
Section titled “List view”The List view presents stories in a structured table. It allows editors to quickly scan large volumes of articles, check completeness, and identify missing attributes across sections.
Story row information
Section titled “Story row information”Each row in the List view displays critical editorial and publication data:
- Story Title: The working headline or published title. Clicking the title opens the Story Drawer.
- Category: Primary taxonomy term assigned to the article.
- Author: The public-facing WordPress byline author.
- Assignee: The team member currently responsible for the article. Unassigned stories show an explicit alert badge.
- WordPress Status: Native status (
draft, pending, future, orpublish). - Editorial Status: Current workflow phase (Idea, Writing, Review, or Ready to publish).
- Priority: Urgency level (Urgent, High, Normal, or Low).
- Deadline: Editorial target date with visual indicators for overdue or due-today deadlines.
- Article Health: Status badge indicating whether the article passes all completeness checks or has missing elements (such as featured image, excerpt, source, or photo credit).
- Date: Publication date for published or scheduled stories, or last modified date for drafts.
Pagination and navigation
Section titled “Pagination and navigation”The List view is paginated, with controls at the bottom of the table. Page selection is preserved in the URL, allowing editors to revisit or share links to specific pages without losing their place.
Sorting modes
Section titled “Sorting modes”To prioritize stories effectively, the List view provides multiple sorting modes accessible from the sort selector:
- Most recent: Default ordering by last modified date descending.
- Oldest: Orders articles by initial creation or last modification date ascending.
- Date descending / ascending: Orders by post date.
- Title (A–Z): Alphabetical ordering by article title.
- Deadline soonest: Places urgent and approaching deadlines at the top of the list, followed by distant deadlines and articles without set deadlines.
- Priority: Ranks stories by editorial priority (Urgent → High → Normal → Low).
Board view
Section titled “Board view”The Board view organizes stories into visual columns corresponding to the four core editorial statuses:
- Idea
- Writing
- Review
- Ready to publish
Each card on the board displays the story title, category badge, assignee avatar, priority flag, deadline indicator, and Article Health status.
Drag-and-drop transitions
Section titled “Drag-and-drop transitions”Dragging a story card between columns updates its editorial status:
- Dragging a card from Writing to Review updates the editorial status and signals to the desk that the piece is ready for editing.
- Dragging a card to Ready to publish marks it as having reached the final editorial stage.
Creating a new story
Section titled “Creating a new story”Editors can introduce new ideas or drafts directly from the Newsroom by clicking the New Story button in the top navigation bar:
- Working Title: Enter a descriptive placeholder or provisional headline.
- Category: Select the relevant editorial section.
- Initial Editorial State: Choose whether the story begins as an Idea or immediately enters Writing.
- Assignee: If starting in Writing, select the responsible staff member. If starting as an Idea, the assignee may be left unassigned.
- Initial Author: By default, the first assignee becomes the initial WordPress author of the post.
Clicking Create Story generates a standard WordPress draft with associated News Desk editorial metadata and opens the Story Drawer for immediate detailing.
Search and filtering
Section titled “Search and filtering”News Desk includes search and filter controls designed to narrow coverage quickly:
- Text Search: Search helps narrow the current newsroom view by article title.
- Editorial Status: Filter by Idea, Writing, Review, or Ready to publish.
- WordPress Status: Filter by native post statuses (Draft, Pending review, Scheduled, or Published).
- Assignee: View articles assigned to a specific editor or writer, or filter exclusively for Unassigned stories.
- Priority: Isolate Urgent or High priority coverage during busy news cycles.
- Deadline State: Filter for Overdue, Due today, or No deadline.
- Author: Filter by public WordPress byline author.
- Category: Filter by publication section or beat.
- Article Health: Isolate articles that Have issues, articles that are Complete, or filter for specific deficiencies like Missing featured image or Missing source.
Shareable filter states
Section titled “Shareable filter states”The current view and supported filters are reflected in the URL, so the same view can be revisited or bookmarked. Editors can save custom views (such as “My Overdue Reviews” or “National Desk Drafts Needing Images”) or share links directly with colleagues in newsroom channels.
